Ultimate Catch by Trish Atkinson

Up at 5.30am in The South East Bay at Mayor Island in Tauranga New Zealand the plan was to troll our way to Alderman Rise and be there for high tide.  As the forecast was for easterly 25 knots at midday, our day was going to be a short one.

We set our Stelth lures very early within 10 minutes we were hooked up, only to be disapointed by a shark who took with him our favourite Stelth Lure. We hunted for another Stelth Lure exactly the same and set the lures again.

We moved to Alderman Knoll where the temperature had risen to 22.2 degrees we stayed to work the area. and saw this huge swirl on our favourite Stelth Lure.  Bill called out, Trish get down here. I think its a Tuna can't be sure." It was on a 60kg line and screaming line out. By this stage the drag was up to about 25kg and still screaming.  We were clearing gear as fast as we could. I was told it was my fish, so get organised. Before you knew it, I was sorted and now fighting the fish.

Finally, after one and half hours and a lot of circles later we dragged the fish into to the cockpit and just couldnt belive our eyes or luck. A big Eye Tuna.  We have never caught one, a fish we thought we would only dream of.
